Flickering here, twittering there

This article tells us that mobile technology is changing the way campaigns are run. You Tube, SNS’s, twitter, texting are the way of the future and can be viewed by an extroardinary amount of people. Obama had the right idea when he used mobile technology to get his word out. Technology had definitely changed campaigning and if candidates don’t take advantage of it they are making a huge mistake.

Question 1. Do you see the future of campaigning done with mobile technology?

Obama Uses Text Messaging With Eye on Nov 4

At Invesco field in Denver where more than 70,000 people attended a rally for Obama there was massive texting going on to a number in order to build a large database. The database then has your number and know you are an Obama supporter so they can send you information to spread Obama’s word. After that you can send to everyone in your contact list and if they are interested they can text the number and so on and so forth until the Obama campaign can build a bigger database. The Obama campaign got on the bandwagon with mobile technology which is one of the best ways to reach their supporters because they tend to be younger and more wired. It was a brilliant idea and it worked.

Question 1. Do you think mobile technology is the way of future elections?

How Much is You Tube Worth to Obama and McCain?

The article by Micah Sifry shows us that You Tube was significant in getting Obama’s point across. Obama had 1,650 video’s on You Tube which translated into 14,548,809.05 hours compared to McCain’s 488,093.01 hours which is a huge difference. Obama had more than 14 million hours extra of publicity which goes to show you because he is our new President elect. The article also tells us that You Tube is free publicity compared to buying ad space on the tv. It is kind of push and pull complex where tv is a form of push and You Tube is the pull because people choose to watch You Tube. I think McCain missed the call on You Tube which was a big mistake.

Question 1. Do you think You Tube is instrumental in getting Obama elected?

Twitter: An Antidote to Election Day Voting Problems

The article by Nancy Scola and Allison Fine tells us about how using Twitter on Election Day could solve most of the problems with overcrowding and complications at the poll site. People can communicate through Twitter any concerns or questions they may have. I like this idea because it can save time and you can be kept up to date with what is going on. Jim Lehrer one the most respected journalist around used twitter to find an address previously during a protest to communicate a story about medics who were gathered on a certain street corner afraid of being arrested.

Question 1. How do see Twitter helping us in the future?

The Daily Me

The article by Cass Sunstein basicly tells us that we can personalize our own magazine or newspaper to what we only want to read. Some people may only want current events happening in their neighbourhood, sports, fashion, political events and so on. You can create your own newspaper and not ever have to read about anything else. I think people should not be so closed minded and should read a little of everything just to broaden their horizons. The Wall Street Journal is even allowing readers to create their own personalized electronic edition which contains only what the reader wants. The article also speaks about filtering and it tells us that no one can see, hear, or read everything. In the course of any day, everybody engages in massive filtering just to make life more manageable and coherent.

Question 1. What do you think of personalizing your newspaper?

Question 2. Do you think there should be links to other topics just in case they want to read it?

Web of Activism

This article is showing us that the internet is the best way to advertise for elections nowadays. It is cheaper than paying for television ad space and millions if not billions are on the internet daily. The internet has unlimited opportunities to advertise e.g. You Tube, Social Network Sites and E Mail just to name a few. Many of the SNS’s are able to track what people are viewing so candidates can find out what constituents are interested in so that can work to their advantage. I would hope though that advertisers would not email everyone if they have not signed up for them.

Question 1. Have you ever advertised online?

Question 2. Have you ever supported a nominee for election with their campaign?
